National Blue Ribbon School
In Fall 2018, OCES was selected as an “Exemplary High Achieving School” by the Maryland State Superintendent of Schools and National Blue Ribbon school. Factors contributing to this award include scoring in the top 15 percent of all Maryland schools on the PARCC assessments, achieving a Kindergarten readiness assessment showing 79 percent of our students to be kindergarten ready for the 2018/2019 school year, our partnership with the University of Maryland Center for Health Literacy, the “Stand Up, Speak Up” program, and our amazing OC Stars! In Fall 2019, the U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos recognized Ocean City Elementary, as a National Blue Ribbon School. This recognition is based on our overall academic performance and progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.

U. S. Secretary of Education Announces 2019 National Blue Ribbon Schools
U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos today recognized 362 schools, including Worcester County's Ocean City Elementary, as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2019. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
“We recognize and honor your important work in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives” said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in a video message to the honorees. “As a National Blue Ribbon School, your school demonstrates what is possible when committed educators hold all students and staff to high standards and create vibrant, innovative cultures of teaching and learning.”
