Physical education is an integral part of the total education at Ocean City Elementary school. We provide a wide-range of developmentally appropriate activities for all children and are committed to regular physical activity. Several of our regular and on-going activities include:
ACES
All
Children Exercising Simultaneously - ACES, occurs once a month, weather
permitting. Students and staff walk for 30 minutes around the school's
fields. Most staff and students are able to walk at least a mile during
this time period.
GOLDEN SNEAKER AWARD
The Golden Sneaker Award facilitates the development of student responsibility for health and fitness by teaching students that they need to be prepared for class. Whenever every student in a class remembers to wear sneakers to their physical education class, the class receives a "spot" on a chart. At the end of the month, the class from each grade level with the most "spots," receives the Golden Sneaker and proudly displays it in their classroom for the next month. In June, the class in each grade level who has won the Golden Sneaker the most amount of times receives an extra recess period.
JUMP WAVE
Once a month, for 1
minute, students and staff stop and perform a minute of jumping jacks
while watching a televised version of students doing jumping jacks in
the gym.
KIDS HEART CHALLENGE
The Kids Heart Challenge is a fun and exciting event where students learn about their heart and how to lead an active lifestyle and help others by raising money for the
American Heart Association. In 2020, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students participated in the after-school JUMP. Kindergarten, Pre-K and 1st grade students participated in an obstacle course. We are proud to announce that we are one of the top fundraisers in the Mid Atlantic region raising $405,151 since the inception of the event at OCES. During the 2020 Challenge, students raised over $21,500.
